Ash Wednesday preparation

From ashes to body and blood…

Here are a few Bible verses to help us prepare and contemplate for tonight’s service.English: Ashes imposed on the forehead of a Ch...

Gen. 3:19 By the sweat of your face you will eat bread, till you return to the ground, because from it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

Job 42:5-6 [Job said:] “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear; but now my eye sees You; therefore I retract, and I repent in dust and ashes.”

Isaiah 58:5 [The LORD says:] “Is it a fast like this which I choose, a day for a man to humble himself? Is it for bowing one’s head like a reed and for spreading out sackcloth and ashes as a bed? Will you call this a fast, even an acceptable day to the LORD?”

Isaiah 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me…

to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives
and freedom to the prisoners;
to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor,
and the day of our God’s vengeance;
to comfort all who mourn,
to provide for those who mourn in Zion;
to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,

Finally, what do all those passages have to do with the following?

2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Receiving ... the body and blood of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins
