Jesus tempted in the wilderness

After the wondrous declaration at his baptism in Mark 1:9-11 and the descending of the Spirit, that very same Spirit “impels” Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted. So many people want to claim the “Spirit-filled” life, but want to deny the reality of life in the wilderness. Jesus demonstrates that the leading of the Spirit will take us to the wilderness. It is not a strange occurrence, but it is to be expected.

How are we living in the wilderness? Are we pleading yet seem to think God has abandoned us? Or is the Spirit working in and through us, even when we cannot see or “experience” it? Life in the Spirit—life in the wilderness.

    Feeling this heavily today, in this place where 6-year-olds can fall through the ice and drown.

    How long, Lord? Help me to look to the cross today to be reminded of your goodness… I do not see it in the thick darkness of the wilderness.
